Here’s another post just for the ladies (we’re obviously biased.) How many of you aren’t a big fan of the jewellery your boyfriend has given you? Are you looking at engagement rings, and are worried your own is, lets just say, not going to be to your liking? There’s no shame in admitting that. Reality is, more often than not, guys just aren’t great at picking out rings for women, which is why they need a little nudge in the right direction.
Here’s five cheeky ways you’re guaranteed to get your perfect engagement ring 😉
1. The Feedback Route
If you’re the romantic kind and loves surprises (and your boyfriend’s up to the challenge), mention your favourite ring setting, style and colour – best to compare it to a newly engaged friends or family members’ engagement rings to sound less suspicious. Tell him what you love and/or hate about their ring designs (make sure his nose isn’t buried in his phone when you’re telling him) and boost his ego by telling him that he’ll definitely choose something beautiful because you just looove his style 😉
2. The Not-So-Subtle Hint
If you know exactly what you want, you need to find a clever way to show a picture of your favourite cut, setting and style. While you’re perusing Pinterest and Instagram, point out pictures of engagement rings and casually mention what you like about that ring design. With all these celebrities getting engaged, just scroll through their Instagram accounts and use that as a conversation starter.
For a more unsubtle way, cut out a picture of your favourite engagement ring and stick it in his Birthday card (definitely an option for the brave ones out there.) Do remember though, only show him a photo if you know he’s prepared to buy a ring. If you do this prematurely, you might just scare him off!
3. The Window Shopping Tactic
If you’re one who’s not big on surprises, we suggest shopping together for the ring – window shopping of course. Under the pretence of not knowing what kind of ring would look good on you, stop by a jewellery store. Try on a couple (make sure you ‘oooh’ and ‘aaah’ at your perfect ring) and move on. He’s bound to take notice and come back to get more details 🙂
4. The Best Friend’s Help
Once ‘getting engaged’ is discussed and on the table, brief your friend on your dream ring design. Let her guide him to the right choice (this is probably one of the easiest ways – really! What are best friends for!?)
This way, he can do the shopping himself, but he’ll feel a lot more confident with his choice of ring if he knows he’s on the right track. And really. This is just about making sure he’s comfortable, right? *ahem*
5. The Joint Effort
For those who prefer a ‘one-of-a-kind’ engagement ring, you should make it clear to your boyfriend that you would like a custom made ring before he proposes. This could become a really good bonding activity where he can share his views on your ring design too. While you’re at it, you guys can design your wedding bands too!
